The Linborg Residence located in Livonia, New York, has earned the ColorBrightonGreen.org Green House Award for October 2010 due to the homeowners’ strong commitment to strategies of alternative energy generation.
Alternative energy generation
- Small-wind generating system: installed a WindTamer, 3.5 kW wind turbine. The first week of wind generation generated 30 kW of electricity. The owner researched wind generation and determined that WindTamer Corporation, a local company, has a small-scale turbine with the ability to generate enough power to run a normal home and approximately half the cost of conventional wind turbines to buy and install.
- Geothermal heating and cooling system
- The owner is researching solar photovoltaic installation to supplement other systems.
- Energy Star appliances
- Energy saving light bulbs throughout the home
The company has put nearly 50 different turbines in various locations across the Rochester area and sees small wind turbines, those that produce 100 kilowatts of power or less, as a viable space for commercial, residential and agricultural growth.
